In December last year Nintendo announced the new Wii Mini. During the announcement Nintendo revealed that the new console would only be headed to Canada. Now Nintendo has revealed that a year later the device will be making its way to the U.S. The scaled-down version of the Wii Mini is currently only available in Europe and Canada. According to a press statement, the Wii Mini will launch "by the middle of November," cost $99. But that's not all the new device will come bundled with a Wii Remote Plus, nunchuck and a copy of "Mario Kart Wii."
The system comes in a red and black design and includes a red Wii Remote we are not sure if Nintendo will introduce other color variations of the console but time will tell. The Wii Mini's features lack immensely compared to the regular Wii console. The Mini does not include online functionality at all. Meaning gamers will not have the ability to play games online or download software from the Wii Shop. The Wii Mini also does not support backward compatibility with Nintendo Gamecube games. Also note there is no SD card slot and only one USB port on the console. These features were stripped away to keep the price low on the console.
The Wii Mini is still an overall good device; in lack of online features. If you are looking to play some disc-based Wii games and are not looking for less expensive used Wiis, then this is perhaps the device for you. Nintendo states the availability of the Wii Mini will "differ somewhat according to location." So some states in may not see the console right away when it launches in the U.S.
