With “Game of Thrones” coming to an end, fans are now hell-bent on when George R.R. Martin will make his "Winds of Winter" release date announcement. However, there were concerns about further delay in the launch date when successor shows were announced by HBO, with the author involved in them in some capacity.

Several TV shows are currently in development that are based on Martin’s fictitious world of Westeros. The first one to get the green light was “House of the Dragon,” which is about the history of House Targaryen that is set thousands of years in the past.

Sharing the news about the successor show on his blog, Martin talked about the people involved. Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik are the showrunners. Sapochnik will be directing the first episode, and Condall has already done a lot of the writing.

A separate writer’s room will be assembled now that HBO has ordered the show. As far as Martin is concerned, he made it “perfectly clear” that he will not be writing any of the scripts of the show until he has finished “Winds of Winter.”

Martin would love to write the scripts for some of the episodes, but he said that his priority is the next book in “A Song of Ice and Fire.” The book was supposed to be released a long time ago, with the author confirming many times that he is nearly done. However, he kept missing his self-imposed deadlines.

When the book is complete, Martin has promised to announce it on his blog. The manuscript will then be given to publishers for processing, and it will take a few months for it to be released to the public.

Meanwhile, Martin was in Chicago last month to take the Carl Sandburg Literary Award. The author has cut down is public engagements in order to complete “Winds of Winter.”
