A 30-year-old Indian woman was arrested for allegedly throwing her twin toddlers to death into a well before attempting suicide by jumping into the well at Perode in Kerala.

The deceased children were three years old and were identified as Fathima Rouha and Muhammed Razvin. Subeena Mumtaz, wife of Manjanampurath Rafeeq, was arrested on murder charges, according to The Times Of India.

Before attempting suicide, she had called up a relative at Vanimel, Kerala to inform that she had thrown her two children into the well. On Sunday night, Subeena was found holding on to the pipe of the motor in the well when her family and residents of the area reached the spot immediately after the call. She was rescued and taken to a hospital, but the two kids had already drowned by then.

Subeena along with her children was staying at the house of her husband in Perode, and the well in which she threw them was attached to the house.

Nadapuram Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nidhin Raj P said that an investigation was going on to find out the motive behind the killings and her suicide attempt. The bodies of the two children were taken to the burial grounds of the Muthakkara Juma Mosque where their funeral took place.

In a similar incident, an Indian woman reportedly got so enraged by her mother-in-law’s actions that she threw her two young daughters into a well and then hanged herself to death. Latin Times reported earlier that the incident happened in the Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh a month ago.

Locals had reported to police about spotting a dead woman after which cops reached the Parwa village, Madhya Pradesh. The woman, identified as Rani Yadav, was found hanging from a snare in the well with her children discovered inside the well. While one of the daughters, 4, was rescued unharmed, the other child, who was 10 months old, was declared dead at the scene.

Cops said that the woman took the extreme step after reportedly having had an altercation with her mother-in-law. Rani was using her husband Kanhaiya Yadav's phone when her mom-in-law came and snatched it from her then the two got into a heated argument.
