A West Virginia woman recently woke up from a two-year-long coma and identified her brother as the assailant that brutally beat her into unconsciousness in June 2020.

The victim, Wanda Palmer, had been savagely bludgeoned and was left unconscious at her Cottageville home in June 2020. Following the brutal attack, Palmer spent two years in a coma at the New Martinsville long-term care center in Wetzel County, New York Post reported.

Even though the police worked to find evidence to identify her attacker, every lead dried up and resulted in a dead end as there were no eyewitnesses and nobody else lived in the home. The authorities also recovered no surveillance footage and cell phone records as the victim had gone into a coma.

“We had a little bit of an idea what happened, but the problem was with the nuts and bolts of the case we had nothing to go on. There were no eyewitnesses, nobody lived in the home, no surveillance footage, and no cell phone records. There was virtually nothing there to move forward on,” Jackson County Sherriff Ross Mellenger explained.

However, after two years, the detectives received a call from the New Martinsville long-term care center informing them Palmer had come out of her two-year coma. Following this, the investigators traveled to the care home in Wetzel County. The authorities later learned that despite suffering severe brain damage in the attack, Palmer’s communication skills were still intact to the point she could identify her attacker and explain what happened, the Daily Beast reported.

“The keys to the whole thing lay with the victim herself and with her unable to communicate we were left with nothing. Now low and behold two years later and boom, she’s awake and able to tell us exactly what happened,” he said.

Palmer identified her brother Daniel Palmer as the attacker that brutally thrashed her to unconscious two years ago. Following the revelation, Daniel was arrested this week and charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding.

Investigating officers believe that the weapon Daniel used in the brutal attack was a machete or a hatchet.
