A 16-year-old girl riding pillion on a motorcycle was crushed to death when a speeding garbage truck mowed her down on Monday afternoon, April 25.

The teen girl, identified only as Siddhi was traveling on the back seat of a motorcycle when the speeding truck struck the two-wheeler from behind near the Jagruti bus stop at the Western Express Highway (WEH) at Malad East, Mumbai, India at around 3 pm on Monday.

Siddhi came under the wheels of the out of control truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to local media reports.

23-year-old Sameer Mulak, who was riding the motorcycle, also suffered critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The Dindoshi police have apprehended the truck driver on charges of causing death due to negligence and rash driving.

The relationship between the deceased teen and the young man is unclear at this time.

Another accident occurred on the same Monday evening when a bus driver mowed down a woman at Eastern Express Highway (EEH) at Vikhroli, a suburb of Mumbai located on the northeastern side of the city.

The unidentified woman was rushed to Rajawadi hospital where she was declared dead.

The bus driver identified as Ganesh Bhise has been arrested on the charges of causing death due to negligence (304-A) and rash driving (279) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act, said police.

A similar incident was reported last weekend from Gandhinagar, India, where a six-year-old girl died after a speeding tractor ran over her when she was crossing a road near her school in the village.

According to a complaint filed with the local police, Hemangi Rawal had gone to school to take the exam on Saturday morning, Apr. 23.

After her exam, she was crossing the road when the accident happened. The tractor driver fled and refused to help the victim. Villagers who saw the accident informed the girl’s family.

Hemangi’s father Arvind Rawal said that he took his daughter to Kalol Civil Hospital where she was declared dead.
