Louis Van Gaal’s Holland will play their second game, after demolishing Spain 5-1, against an Australian side that will need to get at least a point to have any chance of advancing out of the group stage. It will be quite the challenge for the “Socceroos” as Holland’s performance against the current holders made fans around the world take notice.
Australia come into the game off a 3-1 loss to Chile, where Tim Cahill’s headed goal was the only bright spot in a rather lackluster opening game. The boys from down under will have a much tougher opponent in the Dutch and will need more than a bit of luck to get out of this game with any points.
The Dutch on the other hand, could be looked at as favorites to win the entire tournament. They put on an absolute master class performance against the Spanish and will surely look to add to their wave of dominance. Van Persie and Robben will surely play integral parts in this game, and it would not be too much of a surprise to see one of them add to their goal tally.
Look for Holland to control most of the possession in this one. Australia has said that they will not sit back and heavily defend their goal, but the Dutch dominance may force the “Socceroos” into some uncomfortable positions. Look once again for the speed of the Dutch wingers to attack the sides of the Australian defense. I just see the confidence of the Dutch being too much to handle for the lowly Australians. Despite maybe a couple of chances on the counter for the Australians, don’t expect to see too many offensive threats from them.
Chile is a very strong team, stronger than many people gave them credit for, but the Dutch look much more dangerous. Their confidence off a huge win against Spain, plus a much stronger starting XI, will see Holland easily get passed the Australians.
