Underneath all the concerns over environmental responsibility and energy sustainability, the human race is generally a species of excess.
As proof, Bentley has just announced an update for the Bentley Continental GT Speed. Powered by a mighty twin-turbocharged 6.0 liter W12 powerplant, the new GT Speed now puts out a burly 625-hp.
Despite tipping the scales beyond 5,000 pounds, the GT Speed will rocket from 0-to-60 mph in just 4.0 seconds flat before reaching a top speed of 205 mph. Yes, the new Bentley Continental GT Speed is effectively the fastest production Bentley ever made.
According to Pistonheads, a senior powertrain engineer at Bentley disclosed that current W12 engine is capable of generating a well higher power output. Anticipating a new Continental Supersport model in the future, some speculators believe the W12 could push very close to 700-hp if Bentley engineers could ensure its durability.
Bentley's engine testing process is considered one of the most brutal in the industry. During the development of the W12 engine, one particular test required the engine to run at full throttle for 1000 straight hours before repeating the process three additional times. According to Bentley, this simulates 20,000 miles travelled at 200 mph.
Over-engineered in every measure, stay tuned as we learn more about the upcoming Continental GT Speed and Supersport from Bentley.
