“The Blacklist” Season 7 is finally arriving in less than a week. Understandably, exciting spoilers and speculations have been swirling around the net as well, especially on what Katarina’s motive might be for kidnapping Red.

The biggest reveal in the previous season was that Katarina Rostova is still alive all along, just as some fans have always suspected. In fact, Red even used his connections to tract the ex-KGB agent to her current location in Paris, France, and even made arrangements to finally meet her after not seeing her for decades.

In season 6’s final episode, Reddington was seen walking on some darkly lit street in Paris at night. He was following a woman who was later revealed to be Katarina.

The two shared a passionate kiss until Liz’s mother did something totally unexpected. She drugged Red and had her men carry him off into a van that was already waiting nearby.

Naturally, many fans were confused about why Katarina had to drug Reddington. After all, their past relationship is assumed to be very deep considering that she trusted him to watch over her child, Liz.

But a recently released trailer for Season 7 of “The Blacklist” revealed just what Liz’s mother might want from Red. In the brief clip, Red can be seen restrained and inside some building as Katarina approached him.

“I don’t like this,” Liz’s mother can be heard saying. “I can assure you that before we’re finished, you’re going to tell me everything I want to know.”

Her assistants then proceeded to draw blood from Red’s veins and collect it in a blood bag. While it was not explicitly shown just what Katarina wanted from Red, the scene of Red’s blood being drawn out might hold the key.

According to CinemaBlend, had she simply wanted intel from him, it would not have been necessary for her to extract his blood. The fact that she did would suggest that it might have of some use to her.

The publication wrote that it might have something to do with Red’s mystery illness. In an episode in the previous season, he was looking for the whereabouts of a biohacker. Dembe also learned that “The Pharmacist” seems to be concocting something for his boss as well.

Initially, it was thought that the medication could be for Samar. However, it is likely that it is Red himself who needed the medication as he was seen taking some pills.

But the theory about Red’s mystery illness is true: there’s still one perplexing question to address — why would Katarina herself be interested in his blood? Hopefully the upcoming premiere of “The Blacklist” Season 7, which will arrive on Oct. 4, will finally shed light on this mystery.
