With “The Blacklist” Season 7 premiere date fast approaching, a few hints on what the upcoming season could bring have started trickling in. According to the latest spoilers, Katarina will be introduced into the present-day timeline, the theory about Red being Katarina is not necessarily correct, Dembe might team up with the Task Force and, more importantly, the upcoming seventh season might not be the show’s last.

Katarina Is Coming

Katarina is one of the most mysterious characters that “The Blacklist” has ever introduced. Since the show began, there were already crazy theories and speculations about Liz’s mother, such as whether she was dead or alive or whether Red might actually be Katarina.

Thankfully, the previous season proved that some of the speculations were indeed correct. Katarina is still alive and just faked her own death to throw whoever was hunting her off course. But what’s even more exciting is that fans can expect her to join the present-day timeline.

Showrunner Jon Bokenkamp revealed that details of Katarina have been released in the previous season in preparation for her entry in Season 7. “The specter of Katarina snapping into focus is a satisfying ending to the season, I hope, because it’s the introduction of the present-day version of Katarina Rostova,” the showrunner told TV Line.

Apparently, she’ll play a big role in the seventh season’s plot. “Laila Robins [who plays Katarina] is a great embodiment of both the danger and the specter and the formidability,” Bokenkamp added. “She embodies that enigma, and looking ahead, that’s going to be a big part of what we want to talk about in Season 7.”

The Theory That Red Is Katarina Might Not Be Right

One of the most bizarre fan theories out there is that Red might actually be Katarina the entire time. When asked about it, the showrunners seem to hint that this is not the case. “The storytelling is never reactive to what we see online,” Bokenkamp enigmatically answered. “The theories never really drive anything.”

Dembe Might Team Up With The Task Force

Megan Boone celebrated the cast’s return for Season 7 via an Instagram post. In the photo she uploaded, Boone can be seen with co-stars Amir Arison (Aram), Harry Lennix (Cooper), Hisham Tawfiq (Dembe) and Diego Klattenhoff (Ressler).

But the fact that Tawfiq was there caught the eyes of some fans. Cinema Blend put forth the possibility that the actor’s presence might also mean that Dembe will be visiting the Task Force’s HQ next season and team up with them to look for Reddington.

“The Blacklist” Could Go Beyond Season 7

Perhaps the best news of all is that the series might go beyond the upcoming seventh season. When asked about the show's endgame, the showrunners explained that they never want to stretch the story but, at the same time, they believe that there are still so much to tell.

“And yet, at the same time, I think we really have a lot of story to tell,” Bokenkemp said. “Going into Season 7, John and I both feel very confident that we have a lot of work yet to do. I don’t think anybody’s racing to the finish line.”
