The true reason behind the death of a young football coach who worked for a charity by the Bolton Wanderers may have gone from bad to worse due to the recreational use of cocaine. Nathan Coyne committed suicide last December, an unfortunate development that may have resulted from different things.

Per reports, Coyne had just broken up with his girlfriend at that time. But even before that, the 25-year-old was already dealing with a lot of things, compounded by the pandemic. The mental welfare of most is not spared from the COVID-19 crisis and it appears Coyne was just unable to cope with the conditions that led him to take his life.

Worse, it appears the 25-year-old turned to recreational cocaine use for some help. Post-mortem tests showed that Coyne had traces of cocaine and alcohol in his system. His mother confirmed that she was aware that her son was taking cocaine and admitted she was worried that it may get out of hand.

“I was aware he took cocaine socially and at some stage, the cocaine took over, and I was worried that it was getting out of hand,” Tracey Coyne stated. "He got depressed and think it was because of the cocaine and I thought it was because he was coming down from the cocaine.”

Aside from Coyne’s mom, the cocaine intake Nathan was getting out of hand and confirmed by a friend. Grant Bramhall stated that the night before the 25-year-old’s death, Nathan was taking cocaine and vodka and talked about suicide. He added that the 25-year-old was depressed and was consuming more cocaine than usual.

"He was particularly affected by the Covid situation. He was very sociable. I texted him later that night asking him how he was and Nathan replied: 'Good brother',” Bramhall stated.

Based on several other revelations, it appears Nathan dealt with a lot of things in the past years. That included the death of his grandmother where he was unable to grieve properly. Aside from that, another friend of Coyne also hung himself 12 months prior.

Suicide coroner Timothy Brennand batted that the case of Nathan Coyne was not a cry for help. He emphasized how there were already warnings signs and efforts to somehow straighten his path failed.

"It is tragic for his life and family that he did not make better use of the help that was offered to him,” Brennand said.
