For longtime fans of CBS’ police procedural crime series, interest for the upcoming fifteenth season of “Criminal Minds,” being the show’s final season, is at an all-time high. Unfortunately, fans might have to rein in their excitement a bit because the wait will be a little longer than expected.

Previously, fans were expecting Season 15 to arrive by fall this year. Like clockwork, “Criminal Minds” season premieres since the show started in 2005 always happened between mid-September and early October each year.

Apparently, “Criminal Minds” Season 15 will be bucking that trend. CBS already released its fall schedule last month, and unfortunately the crime drama is not included in the list.

It’s interesting to note, though, that its timeslot is now being occupied by “S.W.A.T.,” which will be on its third season. For the uninitiated, “S.W.A.T” is CBS’ newer crime drama series that stars former “Criminal Minds” actor Shemar Moore.

What this means to fans is that the wait for the final season is going to be a lot longer than expected. Considering that the show is not included in CBS’ fall season schedule, its final season will likely be included in the network’s 2020 midseason lineup.

But it’s going to be worth the wait. Actress Aisha Tyler, who plays Dr. Tara Lewis on the show, hinted that the final season will have one memorable ending.

“It’s bittersweet that Criminal Minds is coming to an end,” Tyler told Parade. “But I’m grateful that unlike some shows, we were given the time to plan a proper series finale. We are all trying to savor our last moments on set. The end of the series is going to be really explosive!”

Tyler also revealed why she liked playing the “Criminal Minds” character. “Tara Lewis has been a lot of fun to play,” the actress said. “She’s incredibly smart. She’s really passionate and fearless. Even though she’s tough — she’s there to fight very bad guys — she hasn’t lost her soul. I love the combination of hyper-intellectual and just ballsy badass lady.”

While the show’s cast and crew remained tight-lipped at the moment, there are a few hints that the show’s explosive ending might be due to a very tough villain. CBS’ EVP for Current Programs Amy Reisenback previously hinted that the team “will be up against another formidable villain and will be concluding the 10 episodes with a showdown with that person.”
