One of the longest-running soap operas, "Days of our lives," has freed the cast from their contracts. TV Line reports that the series is taking a break as the month ends. So, what does this mean? Is the show getting canceled? Nope.

Although the NBC series is not canceled, this uncommon move comes at a time when the rating has started to dip, and also the whole genre has become unstable. This might be due to the rise in OTT platforms and the changing tastes of the audience. However, there is good news for all the fans. Sony Pictures Televisions and NBC are said to be in negotiations to renew the series.

They haven't made a official comment yet, but an insider from Sony lets us in on a secret. The studio is not the one who handles all the contract negotiations. The production house is in charge which means, Corday Productions is responsible for the same.

If you have been following the show, don't worry, nothing drastic will occur. Since eight months in advance, they have lots of episodes to air, even during their hiatus. However, if the show does get renewed, it is believed that the production will restart by March of next year. But, what about the cast? Will they come back since they are not contractually bound?

According to an insider, this move was a purely business one. If the show is renewed, the production company will offer new contracts to the actors but at a reduced rate. It is then possible that they lose half their cast, but otherwise, everyone will return at a lower salary.

Despite everything though, it seems like NBC will be keeping the show and, the storyline is getting interesting too. The sudser is fast-forwarding the tale by one year. This is a great way to keep the audience hooked and curious! We can't wait to see what happens.
