MIAMI - The 2024 Emmys are finally here. The awards that reward the best of television were delayed (the ceremony's original date being September 18th) as a consequence of the writers and actors' strikes. While comedian Anthony Anderson will be the host, the darling of the awards will without a doubt be Pedro Pascal.

The Chilean-born actor is nominated in three categories: outstanding lead actor in a drama series for "The Last of Us," outstanding guest actor in a comedy series for his appearance on "Saturday Night Live," and outstanding narrator for the documentary series "Patagonia: Life on the Edge of the World."

Pascal could make Emmy history. So far, only one Latino actor has been recognized in the lead drama actor category. It happened when Jimmy Smits got five nominations for his role as Detective Bobby Simone on "NYPD Blue" in the 1990s.

Other Latinos nominated are Aubrey Plaza for "White Lotus," Camila Morrone for "Daisy Jones & the Six," and Jenna Ortega for "Wednesday"," among others.

It's important to remember that these awards are recognizing the best in television for 2023. The Television Academy expects to have another ceremony before the end of this year. This is only the second time in its history that the Emmy Awards have been delayed. The other took place in 2001, when the Emmys were rescheduled following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The awards even carried on during the 2020 pandemic with a virtual show.
