A food delivery boy has been nabbed for allegedly sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl on the terrace of her building on Tuesday, Oct. 5, while he delivered orders in Mumbai, India.
The accused, identified as Lokchandan Sahu, 19, who works as a delivery boy for a Chinese restaurant, reportedly molested and forced himself on the victim at around 10 p.m. on Oct. 5, on the terrace of the victim's building while he was delivering an order nearby, the Indian Express reported.
Sahu, who was at the young girl’s flat to drop off a food order, reportedly noticed that she was alone in her apartment at the time of his delivery. He proceeded to ask her to step out of the flat as he asked for directions for his next location address. However, he proceeded to manhandle the toddler and forcibly bring her to the terrace as he mounted his despicable advances.
The brutal incident came to light after the girl narrated the incident to her mother later that day. The mother took the girl to a police station and registered a complaint against the accused. Officers immediately launched an investigation into the incident and arrested Sahu on Wednesday, Oct. 6, according to The Times of India.
“We have arrested the accused based on the description and details provided by the survivor,” a senior inspector at the police station said.
The police officers have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 376 (rape) and 377 (unnatural offenses) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and appropriate sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a 22-year-old delivery boy was allegedly raped in Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan earlier this year, ARY News reported.
Ibrahim Khan, a student of the Islamic University Islamabad, allegedly raped a 22-year-old food delivery boy at the university hostel when the victim went there to deliver a food order. Following the incident, Khan, along with another student named Mahmood Ashraf, was expelled from the college by a disciplinary committee on June 18.
In another incident, a pizza-delivery boy who raped an Upper West Side woman while her 7-year-old daughter was sleeping next to her in bed has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Cesar Lucas, who was 16-years-old at the time of the assault, reportedly sneaked into the victim's apartment in September 2012 after delivering a pizza from his dad’s restaurant to another customer on her floor and sexually assaulted the victim. After committing the horrendous crime, he fled the apartment with a stolen iPhone and $20 he took from the little girl’s wallet, according to New York Post.
Lucas was previously arrested in August 2012 for stealing the wallet of another woman after delivering pizza to her neighbor.
