A Fox News host is being mocked by social media users after asking a congressman if the government should really be investing in renewable energy, citing misconceptions about the consistency of such resources as her reasoning.

Host Maria Bartiromo spoke to North Carolina Rep. Greg Murphy on Wednesday morning's episode of her show, "Mornings With Maria Bartiromo." The pair discussed renewable energy, specifically its inclusion in the GOP spending bill, which aims to subsidize sources of clean energy such as wind and solar power.

"I understand nuclear, but what about wind and solar? I mean, should we really have wind and solar subsidies in this bill? What if it's not windy? What if it's not sunny?" Bartiromo asked.

"They're being phased out, but just for the sake of decency for American companies, we need to give them a glide path out. If you stop it today, hundreds of thousands of jobs are lost before anything happens," explained Murphy.

Social media users quickly took to online platforms to mock Bartiromo for seemingly not knowing how renewable energy resources generated power.

"If Maria Bartiromo applied this logic to anything else, we'd still be using candles. The whole point of subsidies is to build resilient, diversified energy infrastructure. Not rely on one sunny day. No one's asking coal plants, 'What if the mine floods?' but maybe they should," wrote one user.

"Has she ever heard of batteries?" one user asked.

"What if Fox News runs out of conspiracy theories?" another mocked.

"Because it's part of the total generation implemented into the grid when conditions are met. This administration has no reality of how the grid works in our Country," one user wrote.
