A 22-year-old Indian gym instructor allegedly stalked and harassed over 100 women on several social media platforms including Facebook. He was arrested by the Delhi Police, officials said on Saturday.

The accused, Vikas Kumar, allegedly sent obscene messages and videos to those women and harassed them.

The arrest happened after the police received a complaint of cyberstalking from a woman in Delhi, reported Indian Express.

According to the complaint, the accused was harassing the woman by sending obscene messages and stalking her online despite her telling him not to do so. The accused allegedly threatened the complainant, saying that he has her personal details. Police said that it's been months since the accused started harassing the complainant.

Amit Goel, Additional DCP (Southwest), said that the Cyber team of the district contacted Facebook and found the accused had created fake IDs to meet women on the platform and harass them. Information posted by him were found to be fake.

“We took out the phone number linked to the account and tried to trace it but it was with someone else. Our team then found that the accused lives near the complainant’s house,” said the officer.

The accused was later found and arrested from his residence. During interrogation, Kumar told the police that he had made Facebook accounts posing as a woman to connect with women.

“We found three accounts with over 2,000 people in the friends’ list. The accused was stalking more than a hundred women. He would also make video calls to these women and flash them,” said the officer.

In a separate incident, a 40-year-old Indian man was arrested last week for allegedly posing as an Army officer to impress women on social media, reported The Hindu. The accused was identified as Dilip Kumar, a resident of Sainik Enclave in Delhi's Mohan Garden. He works as a security guard at a school, said DCP (South) Atul Thakur.

The police said that after getting a tip-off, on Friday around 3 pm, the accused was arrested near GK-I where he had come to meet a date. “He was in an Army uniform. A fake ID card and a mobile phone were seized from him,” Thakur said.

The accused informed the police that he pretended to be Captain Shekhar to impress women on social media.

“On examination of the mobile phone, it was found that he was a member of several WhatsApp groups and had made video calls on international numbers. He had spoken to foreign nationals,” Thakur said.

His connections abroad were being examined, shared Thakur.
