New York authorities have moved to subpoena former President Donald Trump’s two eldest children, Ivanka and Donald Jr., amid a probe on whether his real-estate business exploited the value of his assets for tax and insurance fraud purposes.

Last month, Trump sued New York Attorney General Leticia James in federal court to smear the civil investigation as a political prosecution, the Daily Beast reported.

The move came after the law enforcement agency mailed subpoenas to the former president, Don Jr., and Ivanka in December, seeking to have them sit down for sworn depositions on Jan. 7.

After the Trumps refused to do so, the state’s top prosecutor opted to force them to cooperate and turned up the heat on Donald's longtime business associates.

According to NPR, Trump's lawsuit alleges the probe violates his constitutional rights in a "thinly-veiled effort to publicly malign Trump and his associates."

Now, the trio has been named as “respondents” in an ongoing legal fight with James, according to a document filed in New York state court Monday morning.

By Monday evening, Ivanka and her brother would file a joint motion to block the subpoenas, accusing James of making an unconstitutional attempt to get testimony from the Trumps amid a separate criminal investigation, Bloomberg noted.

In a statement, the AG's office said, “Despite numerous attempts to delay our investigation by the Trump Organization, we are confident that our questions will be answered and the truth will be uncovered because no one is above the law.”

James took office in January 2019 and has since vowed to investigate the family business, the Trump Organization, over its imprecise real estate valuations. Donald led the firm until he entered the White House in 2017, during which his children then assumed more control.

James' office has been assisting a criminal probe headed by the Manhattan district attorney into the Trumps' alleged tax fraud schemes after documents reveal the family deliberately tried to reduce their taxes by claiming advantageous valuations for a forested estate and a golf course north of New York City.
