A 39-year-old man, who was found living with the decaying bodies of his mother and uncle, was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries after attempting suicide.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Varun Pandya allegedly strangled his mother, 62-year-old Vandana Pandya, and uncle, Amul Pandya, on Monday, Aug.16.

On Wednesday, Aug. 17, police officers responded to Varun’s home at the Suman Sajni Bungalows in Maninagar of Ahmedabad, India, after neighbors complained about his alleged suicide bid.

"The man allegedly tried to end his life twice in the past 15 days and his neighbors were aware of that," said a senior police officer.

The responding officers gained access into the home and found the decaying bodies of his mother and uncle. Varun was found unresponsive and bleeding from a stab wound that seemed to be self-inflicted. He was rushed to the LG Hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment.

"Looking at the blood which had spilled on the floor, it appeared that he had attempted to stab himself on Wednesday," Isanpur Inspector J V Rana told the Times of India.

"After killing the two, he stayed with the two bodies on Monday and Tuesday. He first tried to strangle himself but failed. Then, he tried to commit suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan. However, the blades of the fan broke and his second attempt flopped too," said police.

According to the police, on Wednesday night, Varun stabbed himself with a kitchen knife. However, unable to bear the pain, he called a relative and informed him of the act. The relative then alerted the police control room which informed the Isanpur police.

The bodies were sent to a medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. Police said further details will be revealed once Varun regains consciousness and the autopsy results are out, the police said.

"At present, it seems that a financial crisis drove the man to take such a step. However, once he is in a position to give a statement, the reason for murder will be known," the officer said.
