A man has been accused of heinously killing his own father with a spade, reportedly in retaliation for the victim constantly taunting the suspect and his wife for not having a child in Dhamtari district, Chhattisgarh, India on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

The victim, identified as 55-year-old Shivnarayan Satnami, reportedly frequently scolded and taunted his son, Khelandas, and daughter-in-law, Sangeeta, for not having a child despite being married for 11 years now. On Wednesday, Sept. 21, a heated argument ensued between Satnami and Sangeeta regarding the same issue, during which the patriarch began a shouting match with her, the Times Of India reported.

As their verbal argument escalated, the duo went out of the home on the street. Hearing the heated confrontation unfold, Khelandas, who was also in the house at the time, came out of the residence carrying a spade in his hand, and, in a fit of rage, allegedly attacked his father with the gardening tool, leaving him seriously injured.

Following the attack, Sangeeta and other family members, with the help of their neighbors, immediately transported Satnami to Nagri Hospital for treatment. However, he was later referred to Dhamtari for advanced treatment. Satnami succumbed to injuries at a private hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 21, NDTV reported.

Following this, local authorities were alerted about the incident. The officers later arrested Khelandas at his home.

"Prima facie, it seems that Khelandas was fed up with being constantly taunted by his father. In a fit of rage, he allegedly murdered him," an official said.

The officers have launched an investigation into the incident and a further probe is underway.
