Turns out, Melania Trump said no to Donald Trump more often than expected.

The White House might have taken a slight detour as far as adhering to COVID-19’s guidelines—hosting large gatherings amid a pandemic towards the end of 2020— is concerned. But, as opposed to popular beliefs, it wasn’t always Melania Trump’s doing, despite the area falling under the state of affairs she overlooked.

In a bombshell reveal, Independent reported that Melania reportedly turned down Chief of Staff Mark Meadows' request thrice to use the White House for an event back at a time when Trump International Hotel was restricted by local regulations.

The former US First Lady allegedly fought hard with her husband against having an election night party that continued well after Christmas, PEOPLE magazine reported. Despite the media portraying her as the planner behind it all, in a new-Trump-tell-all by Wall Street Journal reporter Michael C. Bender, titled “Frankly, We Did Win This Election,” it has been revealed that Melania was staunchly against hosting these parties, but eventually just gave in to Trump's perspective. In the book, Bender categorically mentions how she loathed the idea of having a large gathering at their official residence for election night but had to succumb to it eventually.

Describing Melania’s return to Washington D.C. from Florida for election night, Bender recalled the fight the former first lady made, to make her discomfort known about people gathering at their 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue address. While President Trump’s word was final and the parties went on long after him losing elections, Melania did what was in her control— successfully chunked down the lists from 1,000 or so to around 200. She allegedly even expected catastrophic outcomes such as staunch protests after these parties.

As per a report in Yahoo! News, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem harbored a deep desire to attend multiple Christmas parties and refused to take no for an answer, to which Melania agreed. “‘Fine,’ Melania said, as reported in the media outlet. “You know what? If she wants to get Covid that bad, that’s up to her," she added.

Irked by the insensitivity, Bender recounts how Melania was livid about the Nov.8 election party and made her annoyance clear as Trump rang her up from Air Force One to discuss the same. The former first lady allegedly snapped at her husband for making up his mind to do the wrong thing.

A current spokesperson has refused to comment on the speculations.
