Narcos
Netflix original series "Narcos" follows the story of kingpin Pablo Escobar. Netflix

After a long, long wait, fans will finally get another 10 episode of the hit Netflix original series “Narcos” when its second season is released on September 2.

“Narcos” is a serialized take on drug kingpin Pablo Escobar and the Medellín Cartel, starring Wagner Moura as Escobar, Boyd Holbrook as DEA agent Steve Murphy, “Game of Thrones” actor Pedro Pascal as DEA agent Javier Peña, and Raúl Méndez as President César Gaviria.

This season will bring new members to the cast including Mexican actor Damián Alcázar, and “Miss Bala” director Gerardo Naranjo will also be directing four episodes.

Escobar has been described as the inventor of narco-terrorism, and during his reign as “King of Cocaine,” he ordered the deaths of thousands, turned Colombia into the murder capital of the world and much more devious deeds. The series follows the rise and fall of Escobar and the Drug Enforcement Agency agents hunting him.

The story is told largely from the points of view of Escobar and DEA Agent Steve Murphy on opposite sides of what would become an all-out war. The gritty drama begins with th.e early days of the drug battle, when the biggest offenders were "hippies in flip-flops" caught with up to a kilo of marijuana, continuing to the violent, bloody battles between members of the cartel peddling tons of cocaine and drug agents from Colombia, Mexico, and the U.S. -- a struggle estimated to have cost at least 4,000 lives over two decades.

SPOILER ALERT for those who have not caught up with Season 1…

The series ended its 10th episode with Escobar’s prison escape, so it will most likely take on a different turn this season, now that the drug lord is on the loose.

The streaming service gave viewers the news along with a piece of advice to avoid spoilers. “Narcos is back on September 2. If you don't want spoilers, be sure to avoid Wikipedia until then.”
