The New York Knicks are struggling and a trade is expected to go down at some point. The first name that comes to mind is Kemba Walker, someone that Tom Thibodeau has benched in favor of Alec Burks.
The move was meant to hopefully alter the course of the Knicks. Unfortunately, that has not been the case with the drive of New York this season only getting worse. Regardless, it appears the Knicks have another target in mind although it appears to be nothing more than exploratory for now.
According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, Eric Gordon of the Houston Rockets is someone that the Knicks could pursue by the Feb. 10 NBA trade deadline.
With the Rockets shifting to a youth movement type of an approach, seeing Gordon get shipped makes sense.
Houston is focusing on Kevin Porter Jr., Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun right now although Gordon is still around to provide some guidance to the young upstarts. But the question there is up to when?
The Knicks’ interest in Gordon is spurred by links the 2017 NBA Sixth Man of the Year awardee to Derrick Rose. The former MVP tried to woo the 6-foot-3 guard in the past to come to New York but Gordon ended up moving to New Orleans.
Rose and Gordon once played together or a Chicago-based AAU team called the Mean Streets Express. They are regarded as the best backcourt duo in AAU history.
The logical exchange would be Walker. But given his spate of injuries and age, he could end up being a mentor if not eventually waived. Hence, the only benefactor in a potential NBA trade would be Gordon and the Knicks.
Gordon is on a long list of potential targets Thibodeau has in mind. With roughly more than two months to go, the Indiana native is someone worth keeping watch over.
