For years, oil has been getting a bad rep as women (and men!) have been investing in products to get rid of any sign of sebum on their face. But oil has been making a comeback, as experts and consumers alike have been noticing the benefits of applying oil to your face, body and hair (and consuming it too!). Even those prone to an oily skin and scalp have jumped on the 'oil fights oil' bandwagon to tame their sebum-producing glands.

What makes oil so special? It's essentially a really pure form of any emollient that seeps into your skin, hair shaft and cuticles. Researchers have found that oils penetrate your skin and hair deeper than creams, conditioners and other products promising hydration. What's more, one product can work for your whole body.

That said, how you apply oil will vary based on your skin type and where you're applying the product. For instance, when applying oil on your face, it is important to keep in mind your skin type to ensure you don't cause unnecessary breakouts -- if you have oily skin then use a lighter formula. When applying oil to your body, know that the best time to apply the product will be right after stepping out of the shower. And for your hair, you can use oil as a leave-in moisturizer or a deep conditioning treatment.
