Prince Charles is reportedly planning to cut down the royal family when he becomes king. The decision to boot some royals out of the family reportedly comes in the wake of Prince Andrew’s scandal.

According to royal expert Jeremy Corbyn, Prince Charles might be taking over the throne in the next 18 months as Queen Elizabeth officially hands over her royal duties to her heir. While Prince Charles has always been vocal about his plan to strip back the royals, Prince Andrew’s alleged links to convicted multi-billionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has reportedly accelerated the move.

It can be recalled that the Duke of York made headlines two weeks ago following his attempt to address his alleged involvement in Epstein’s sex trafficking crimes. Unfortunately, Prince Andrew received more backlash than support after doing the interview, forcing him to step back from his royal duties.

Last week, Prince Charles reportedly met Prince Philip at Sandringham to discuss the future of the royal family, as Queen Elizabeth is retiring in 18 months. As the Prince of Wales takes on a Prince Regent role in 2022, he will take over family affairs and handle the day-to-day businesses of his mother, who is now 93.

Both Prince Philip and Prince Charles reportedly agree that the royal family is too big and should be reduced to just the core members. When this happens, then the working royals will be cut down to a bare minimum.

“I think the Andrew crisis has definitely strengthened Prince Charles’ desire for a slimmed down monarchy,” said royal editor Brittani Barger. “Prince Andrew is now out of the picture. I don’t see him ever undertaking royal duties again, and any hope that his daughters would is now gone,” she added.

Corbyn also believes that too many people are attached to the royal family. “I do think the question of the size of the family and all that they do, but I do think the public as a whole would want to see those kind of changes and the debate around the behavior of Prince Andrew has actually brought that to the fore,” he said.

It remains to be seen if the future King’s plan to slim down the monarchy is already underway, but royal experts believe that his recent meeting with Prince Philip is a sign that it already is. As Prince Charles reduces the monarchy to just a core group which will include Prince Charles and his children, Prince William and Prince Harry, their wives, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, and their children.
