The problem here is that the light bar is completely useless without the additional PlayStation Camera peripheral so your battery will drain on the DualShock 4 faster for no apparent reason.
Yoshida's confirmation was pretty concise when asked about the light being turned off to conserve the battery. Yoshida tweeted, "@DN_pro no."

Seeing as Sony originally intended to bundle the PlayStation Camera in with every PlayStation 4, there wouldn't have been a need to turn the light bar off. While Sony has changed its mind on the inclusion of the Camera though, it seems it won't be backing down on this one despite the fact it'll drain the battery quicker and possibly reflect off your screen.

Besides the battery loosing power at a much more rapid pace the other concern for gamers is the light being emitted by the controller. Will players have to worry about the blue light reflected on their screens while they play their PlayStation 4 games?
