Royal family fans must have been shocked at a recent tabloid report saying that Queen Elizabeth II will disown Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. What is even more surprising is the claim by the same report that the royal couple might soon find themselves exiled in the Mediterranean island of Malta.

The story came from Nation Enquirer, which claimed that “Royal Family Disowns Harry & Meghan!” in its front page. There was even a bullet point claiming that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were “Banished to Malta by fed-up Queen.”

The publication went on to report that the royal couple was shocked because “the queen disowned them both right on the spot.” The article even claimed that the queen was not just satisfied in kicking them out of the royal family but that she even “ordered them into exile on the remote Mediterranean island of Malta,” which reportedly shocked an unnamed palace aide who witnessed the incident. The reasons given are that Prince Harry and Meghan disregarded protocol and caused some tension with Prince William and Kate Middleton.

At first glance, however, it is easy to spot that the story is full of holes. For instance, every royal family is aware by now that Prince Harry and Meghan are busy renovating Frogmore Cottage, a project that costs around $3,855,000. The move is actually arranged by Queen Elizabeth II, so it’s probably safe to conclude that Her Highness wants her grandson, Prince Harry, as well as her future great-grandchild, to have a comfortable life in England and not in some island in the Mediterranean.

As far as the cited tension between the two brothers and their wives is concerned, recent reports suggest that there is none at all or, at least, Prince William remains supportive of his younger brother, Prince Harry. For instance, the older prince was reported to have defended and supported Harry and Meghan’s plan of putting up their own communication team. This support suggests that the bond between Princess Diana’s two sons remains as strong as ever and is unlikely to be affected by any temporary tension.

Fact-checking site Gossip Cop likewise debunked the story, saying that the cover story is full of false information. First, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are still in England doing royal duties even after their reported “exile.” In addition, the publication noted that Prince Harry is set to join Prince Charles and Prince William for the premiere of Netflix's “Our Planet” on April 4, proving that Harry is still very much a part of the royal family.
