A Southaven Police officer in Memphis was injured in a shooting incident. The suspect, Cody Demmitt, who took off to Arkansas after the shooting, has been arrested.

A witness said that she heard about six gun shots before police arrived at the shooting scene, reported Fox News.

According to Local 24 News, the officer received treatment at Regional One Health Medical Center in Memphis.

The Memphis Police Department and the Southaven police chief visited the hospital with at least 10 police vehicles in the area. The victim is now back at his home.

After a six-hour search, Dimmett of Marietta, Georgia was caught on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old was arrested by law enforcement officers of the Arkansas State Police, St. Francis County Sheriff’s Department, FBI, Arkansas Game & Fish Commission and others who were involved in the search.

The search started around 1.30pm after an Arkansas State Trooper saw the vehicle believed to have been taken at the place where the shooting happened and tried to stop the driver along Interstate 40 (westbound) near Forrest City.

Dimmett managed to flee from state police and left the vehicle off St. Francis County Road 255. He was spotted around 7.30pm near the location where he was last seen by the trooper. Police were initially looking for Demmitt after a shooting in Marietta, Georgia on May 22.

Cops got a call about a person shot at a home on Westchase Drive, reported 13WMAZ. When they reached the spot, officers said that they found the victim, military veteran Steve Boyd, with a gunshot wound. The house also had bullet holes.

"When he came acting like he was all geeked up, wanting to party, I told him 'no,' but it wasn't my house," Boyd said. Not long after the interaction, gunfire started. The owner of the house said that they were playing a game of Family Feud when the incident took place.

Boyd said that during the shooting, bullets came from all over the place. It lasted for several minutes. He said that it felt like they were being "ambushed." "All you heard was, 'pop, pop, pop, pop, boom, boom, pop, pop," Boyd said.

Police said that the suspect had fled from the scene before they arrived.
