Texas Man Caught While Transporting Hundreds Of Thousands Of Dollars Worth Of Cocaine

A Texas man was detained while carrying hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of cocaine inside a vehicle, authorities said.

Concretely, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Los Indios International bridge port of entry referred a car driven by a San Benito resident for a secondary inspection.

There, they discovered 19 packages containing almost 43 pounds of alleged cocaine, a press release by the agency said. The drugs have an estimated worth of more than $572,000.

CBP authorities seized the cocaine and the car, while Homeland Security Investigation agents arrested the man and began a criminal investigation.

The incident came shortly after another similar one days ago. Authorities detailed that took place at the Camino Real bridge, which connects Piedras Negras and Texas.

Agents conducted a non-intrusive inspection, with a drug-sniffing dog alerting of the presence of illegal substances.

"The canine created an alert, and a physical inspection led to the discovery of 16 packages of alleged cocaine weighing 36.59 pounds," authorities said. They added that the drugs are worth almost half a million dollars.

CBP had already seized over $1 million worth of Cocaine in Texas in late July. The incident took place at the Hidalgo Port of Entry after a vehicle was referred for secondary inspection, the agency detailed.

"A canine inspection resulted in an alert and a nonintrusive imaging system scan revealed anomalies within the vehicle," the agency noted. It added that, "upon closer physical examination," officers discovered 30 packages containing almost 77 pounds of alleged cocaine.

"This substantial cocaine seizure reflects the strong dedication of our officers to safeguarding the border, as well as their skillful use of experience and technology," said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez. The drugs and the car were seized, and Homeland Security Investigation began a criminal investigation into the matter.
