A 21-year-old Florida mom was shot dead by her toddler while she was on a Zoom call with her coworkers.

A 911 caller said Shamaya Lynn was on a work-related conference call when they heard a loud bang and saw her falling backward as a toddler stood in the background. The caller said Lynn stopped responding after the fall, Altamonte Springs Police said in a statement.

Paramedics and police responded to the Oaks of Spring Valley apartments off Spanish Trace Drive on Wednesday, Aug.11, and found Lynn lying unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the police, one of Lynn's two young children found a loaded gun and accidentally fired a shot at her

"Investigators determined that the injury was caused by a toddler who found a loaded handgun, which was left unsecured by an adult in the apartment," the statement said.

The gun belonged to the toddler’s father, WESH reported.

"To anyone and everyone tuning into this story if you own a firearm please keep it locked and secured," Officer Roberto Ruiz, Jr. said. "Incidents like this can be avoided."

Both children suffered no injuries during the fatal incident. They are now in the care of their relatives, according to WESH.

Police said this is an ongoing investigation and the detectives are working closely with the Seminole County State Attorney’s Office to determine if the toddler’s father will face any charges.

In a similar incident that occurred in Altadena, California on March 24 this year, a woman saw her colleague being murdered while she was on a Zoom call with her. The woman also witnessed a male resident getting attacked in a "possible kidnapping in progress," Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a press release.

Police officers were dispatched to the crime scene after the woman made a 911 call to report the incident. Responding officers found the male victim dead in the driveway and the female victim dead inside the house. The victims were brother and sister.

During the investigation, a suspect, identified as 32-year-old Robert Cotton was detained and booked on two counts of murder.
