Univision's sister network UniMás is set to premiere "Totalmente Diva," a new telenovela from Brazil. The story stars Marina Ruy Barbosa in a modern fairytale, rag-to-richess success. Also starring in the soap are Juliana Paes and Fábio Assunção. The premiere of the series will take place on Tuesday, June 13 at 8pm/7c. SYNOPSIS: With an engaging story featuring a captivating cast, “Totalmente Diva” is a modern fairytale that will win the audience’s heart right from the very beginning. After escaping sexual harassment by her own drunken stepfather, Eliza (Marina Ruy Barbosa) runs away from home with the help of her mother, Gilda (Leona Cavalli), to try her luck in the big city. Her ultimate dream is to provide a better life for her mother and siblings.
But life in the big city turns out to be harder than she had envisioned. After being robbed on her very first day there, Eliza ends up living in the streets. That is how she meets Jonatas (Felipe Simas), a young “street entrepreneur”, as he likes to be called while he looks after parking spaces and sells candy by traffic lights. Eliza starts selling flowers to make a living with his help and they both develop a true friendship destined to become the most beautiful love story.
However, she did not anticipate destiny would bring her face to face again with Arthur (Fábio Assunção), a lady-killer she refers to as “prince charming”. They had met briefly before at Eliza’s family roadside joint while she still lived inland. But his “prince charming” ways only go so far: your typical Don Juan, Arthur is known for avoiding any kind of serious commitment at any cost. His longest-running fling is with the ambitious Carolina (Juliana Paes - “India, a Love Story” and “Gabriela”), editor-in-chief at the famous fashion magazine Totalmente Diva.
In spite of having her career as a life priority, Carolina is eager to become a mother - particularly if it means for Arthur to be the father. Seduction and audacity play a key role in their turbulent relationship. The latest betting game they engage in sees Arthur risking his modeling agency, Excalibur, by taking on an almost impossible mission: transforming shabby flower girl Eliza into a model able to win the Totalmente Diva beauty contest.
As Eliza goes through a major makeover, Arthur falls madly in love with her. On the other hand, Eliza feels torn between Jonatas’ love and Arthur’s spell. Meanwhile, Carolina finds strength in this betrayal to win the bet and see the modeling agent dig in the dirt. In order to achieve this goal, she recruits Cassandra (Juliana Paiva), a contestant with no limits when it comes to sabotage her biggest opponent Eliza.
With over 30 million viewers in Brazil and Portugal, “Totalmente Diva” was a massive audience hit and a true lab of innovations. Shot partially in Australia and Uruguay and taking place within the fashion business, the telenovela is a romantic story about overcoming life’s obstacles.
