Trump Urges Mexico To Address Its 'Water And Sewage Problem,' Calling it a 'Threat' To The U.S.

President Donald Trump urged Mexico to address its "water and sewage problem," calling it a threat to the United States.

"Mexico must take care of its water and sewage problem, IMMEDIATELY. It is a true Threat to the People of Texas, California, and the United States of America!" Trump said in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.

He included a video claiming that "Mexico continues to send millions of gallons of raw, untreated sewage water into the Tijuana river."

"The often massive releases are linked to operational issues at Tijuana's primary wastewater treatment facility. It's created a health hazard for communities like Imperial Beach and Coronado," the video adds.

The latest development regarding the issue took place in late July when the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding that includes clear steps to address the issue.

"There is a great commitment by the two countries to strengthen cooperation," said Mexican Environmental Secretary Alicia Barcena after meeting with Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin in Mexico City back then.

Zeldin flew to San Diego earlier this year to get a first-hand view of the issue. He said he saw the "degradation of the Tijuana River valley" and met with "Navy Seals, who have had their training impacted."

"The Trump Administration is proud to deliver this massive environmental and national security win for Americans in the San Diego area who have been living with this disgusting raw sewage flowing into their communities for far too long," Zeldin added back then.

The agreement details that Mexico will complete its allocation of $93 million for infrastructure projects, and will adhere to a schedule managing priorities through 2027. It is unclear whether steps were taken.
