In a harrowing moment captured live, Brazilian journalist Lenildo Frazão accidentally discovered the body of a missing teenage girl at the bottom of a river where he stood covering her disappearance.

The reporter was broadcasting from a river where he was submerged in chest-high water, demonstrating the strong currents that had complicated the search effort.

As he addressed the camera, Frazão took a step and jumped suddenly, clearly startled mid-report.

"I found something here at the bottom of the water," he says after spitting out water, according to Asian Chronicle's translation.

"No, it was soft," he says to someone off camera. "Could it be her?"

Frazão had indeed stepped on the body of the missing girl.

The 13-year-old girl, Raíssa, had been missing for several days. Rescue teams had been combing the area, but the powerful currents and murky water conditions made recovery efforts difficult.

Frazão immediately stopped the broadcast and alerted authorities, who confirmed the identity of the body shortly after. Her death was determined to be accidental.
