A 50-year-old Indian man ate a poisonous snake claiming that it would keep Covid-19 at bay. The man has been arrested after the video of him eating the reptile surfaced on social media.

Vadivelu, an agricultural worker from Tamil Nadu’s Madurai district, claimed that snakes are good antidotes to coronavirus and that is why he was eating one.

In the video, he is seen ripping the dead reptile into two and then eating chunks of its flesh.

"It keeps Covid at bay," Vadivelu can be heard saying. He was reportedly in an inebriated state.

According to local media, his friends shot the video after daring him to pick up the dead snake from drainage and eat it. They even allegedly instigated him to say that eating snakes can prevent Covid-19.

Vadivelu managed to survive the incident, however, that was not the end of it, the video of him eating the snake went viral on the internet.

Environmentalists who came across the massively shared video alerted the state's forest department about the crime.

Vadivelu was soon arrested from his home. He was fined 7,500 rupees (104 USD) and released.

"He was lucky that he did not bite into the venom glands of the snake which was a common krait," Madurai S Ananda, the district forest officer, told The Times of India. "The common krait contains neurotoxins that can paralyze a human being."

In another viral video, a hungry crocodile was spotted hunting a dog loitering on the banks of river Chambal in Rawatbhata, near Kota in Rajasthan, India.

In the video, a dog is seen wandering on the riverbank while a crocodile quietly tracks it.

"They (crocodiles) are clever. The dog is unaware," the person behind the camera can be heard saying.

The crocodile closes in on its prey and in a flash grabs it in its jaw. The poor dog can be heard yelping before the giant reptile swims away with it into deep waters.

"It took the dog," the person says before the video ends.

The video has been receiving major backlash from netizens.

"How could you make a video in this situation? You should have saved the poor dog when you saw the crocodile coming. My god so heartless you are," a netizen commented under the video.
