Aside from their titles, members of the British royalty can also be classified as either working or nonworking royals. On that note, many fans have been wondering why Prince Andrew’s daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, belong to the latter category.

A number of reports hinted that it may be Prince Charles’ doing that Beatrice and Eugenie are nonworking royals. For instance, Express reported that the Prince of Wales has plans of streamlining the family despite disapproval from other royals.

“When Charles ascends the throne — which he will do despite all the talk to the contrary – he’d like the Royal Family to be streamlined: he wants a smaller, more cost-effective monarchy,” the publication quoted Evening Standard’s royal editor.

“But if Charles has his way, the girls will be thrown off the royal payroll and have to fend for themselves,” he added. In fact, reports say that this may be the cause of the supposed rift between Charles and Andrew as the latter has been pushing to have his daughters to become full-time working royals.

Of course the Palace has never revealed the inner workings of the royal family, and it has never publicly announced who really made the call for Beatrice and Eugenie’s exclusion from the royal payroll. However, many fans believe that it might have been Charles.

For example, someone posted the questions “Why didn’t Prince Charles allow Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie to become working royals like their father, Prince Andrew, wanted? Is there animosity between the two brothers?” on Quora, which basically mirrors what the tabloids have been reporting. And based on the responses, it’s obvious that many believe its Charles’ handiwork.

For instance, Quora user Deanna Eppers believe that Charles really wants to streamline the family. “Prince Charles make [sic] no secret of his desire to slim down the Monarchy, and when he is King, that will definitely occur,” Eppers wrote.

Meanwhile, another Quora user says that it’s partly due to Charles’ cost-cutting efforts and partly due to Beatrice and Eugenie’s parents. “Firstly, we have to recognize that Charles is a skinflint, except with himself and Camilla,” Lili Kamath explained.

“Secondly, we need to understand that, as long as Andrew and Sarah are alive, their girls will be tainted by their actions. Their parents need to be kept at arm’s length from the Crown so the girls pay the price,” Kamath added.

However, not everyone actually believes that Charles was responsible for the issue. The reason given is that he’s not yet the monarch. “Prince Charles is not the Monarch. While I’m sure he has his own views on how he will reign as King, he isn’t there yet,” Quora user Sallie Smythe responded to the query.

Basically, Smythe believes that it was Queen Elizabeth II’s decision not to employ her two granddaughters. “If it were considered appropriate for the 2 York Princesses to be working Royals, then Her Majesty would have given them that right,” Smythe added.
