Miguel Cotto recently earned his 38th career victory, defeating Dominican star Delvin Rodriguez last weekend by way of a third round knockout. Earning his first victory since defeating Antonio Margarito in December of 2011, the 32-year-old future Hall of Famer certainly made a statement in his comeback victory after previously falling to Floyd Mayweather Junior and Austin Trout. While he will certainly begin to ponder who he could square off against in his next fight, Cotto was just happy to give his fans another victory after some time away from the winners circle.

"It feels good to win and be able to do it in front of a wonderful crowd," Cotto said shortly after earning the 31st knockout of his career. I thought I hit him with some good shots early and I was able to get the stop. All of the work that we put in over the last month really showed tonight. I'm very happy to have Freddie in my corner since we were able to get back to the basics."

Now that Cotto is back to fighting shape and has seemingly regained his confidence, fans of the sport are beginning to wonder if the three division champion will target a high profile opponent for his next outing. Canelo Alvarez - who recently fell in a major Las Vegas fight against undefeated Floyd Mayweather Junior - has entered the conversation as to who could battle Cotto next with Sergio Martinez's name popping up as well.

With a career record of 42-1-1, 23-year-old Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez will certainly garner loads of attention after recently stepping into the ring with the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Despite falling to Mayweather, the former WBC and WBA Light Middleweight Champion proved he is worthy of an appearance on boxing's grandest stage against the best fighters in the world.

If Canelo is not the next opponent, 38-year-old Argentina native and WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez could get the nod. Posting a career record of 51-2-2, Martinez certainly has the resume to stack up against Cotto, with past victories over Kelly Pavlik and Martin Murray showcasing his experience and skill set.

Despite the talk surround both Alvarez and Martinez, Miguel Cotto's trainer Freddie Roach would like to see his boxer take on an old foe since he feels the superstar is once again in top shape and ready to take on the best in the world.

"Miguel is ready to go against Mayweather," Roach said regarding his desire to see Cotto battle Floyd Mayweather Junior. He is in the best shape of his career. He returned to the style that he needed to go back to, and as Miguel said last week, if I had been in his corner for his fight against Mayweather, he would have won."

Cotto went head-to-head with Mayweather in May of 2012 and although he fell by way of a unanimous decision, Cotto's trainer believes he is ready for another crack at the best in the sport and if this match-up does take place, you can be sure boxing fans everywhere will undoubtedly have their eyes focused on the star-studded ring.
