A 7-month-old boy died after he was attacked by their family dog on Sunday, Oct.17, at his Tennessee home, according to Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals.

A statement from the Sheriff’s Office said the first responders responded to the home on Apache Lane in Kodak at around 6:15 p.m.on Sunday after receiving reports of an infant not breathing after a dog attack.

The responding officials found the infant unresponsive and his grandmother severely injured from trying to protect the baby during the attack, the CBS17 reported.

The infant, Bentley Parker was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the sheriff’s office, the dog tried to attack the first responders and was put down at the scene.

Bentley's devastated mother, Tiffany Parker is still trying to terms with the untimely death of her baby boy.

“To know that I’m never going to be able to hold him. I never got to hear him say ‘Momma.’ I never thought that when I left that trailer I would never see him again,” Tiffany said.

“He was just so much love. Those bright blue eyes, they just look up at you and just smile all the time.”

“Each day that I get up and take a step forward, it’s for him. I won’t give up on him because I know I’ll see him again.”

She said the dog, a Saint Bernard lived at her mom’s and that she had dropped Bentley off there to run an errand and was gone for just about two hours.

“I made sure the dog was locked outside. How he got inside, I don’t know,” said Tiffany.

The dog had shown some aggression toward Bentley before, but never to this level, she added. She said her mother was also hurt when she tried to help the infant from being attacked.

“From the way that it looks of it, she was trying to cradle him and protect Bentley. Because like I said, there was just so much blood on my mom that it looks something from like a haunted house or something, is what you would think,” she said.

Tiffany is urging parents to please take caution if they notice anything concerning with their animal’s behavior.

She said she doesn’t blame her mom for the tragedy as she knows she did everything she could.

The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
