Federal authorities in Mexico have arrested the alleged leader of the Juarez Cartel. Alberto "Ugly Betty" Carrillo is said to be the third top ranked member of a drug Cartel to be caught this year. Officials in Mexico have been working hard to stomp out the powerful gangs that some say really run the country. Carrillo was wanted in connection with drug trafficking, and faces several organized crime based charges. It is believed Carrillo took over control of the Juarez gang after his brother Vicente became wanted for several crimes.

Police captured Carrillo in the western state of Nayarit. Reports are saying the 47-year-old alleged cartel boss was taken into custody after being discovered hiding alone in a hotel. Another Carrillo brother, Armado, originally formed the Juarez cartel. The founding member of the Juarez gang died in 1997 after a botched attempt to have a plastic surgeon alter his face in order to avoid being found. Carrillo's arrest came one day before Mexico's president, Enrique Pena Nieto was due to give his state of the union address. Nieto vowed to end drug violence in Mexico when he took office.

In a new poll, cited by the Daily Mail it seems some Mexicans believe the drug cartel violence has escalated since Nieto became president. The El Universal/Buendia & Laredo poll found that of the 1,000 people surveyed 49-percent believe the violence has gotten worse. One fourth of those questioned say the security in Mexico improved with another 25-percent saying it has remained steady. The other arrests that occurred this year include Zetas leader Miguel Angel Trevino Morales, who was one of Mexico's most wanted cartel lords. The other arrest was Mario Armando Ramierez Trevino of the Gulf Cartel.
