A professional bull rider was allegedly murdered by his girlfriend after competing at the Utah State Fair in Salt Lake City on Monday, Sept. 12.

Twenty-one-year-old LaShawn Denise Bagley and the victim, Demetrius Omar Lateef Allen, 27, reportedly got into an argument at a bar in downtown Salt Lake City after attending the Utah State Fair. After their fight, Allen reportedly wanted to retrieve some of his posessions from Bagley’s apartment near 900 South and 200 West. However, once he arrived at Bagley's flat to collect his things, Bagley allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Allen, New York Post reported.

Allen, a professional bull rider, also known by his riding name Ouncie Mitchell, had competed in a bull riding event at the fair on Sunday night. He was found mortally wounded outside a Salt Lake City apartment complex shortly after midnight by local law enforcement. Officers immediately provided emergency medical care to Allen and transported him to a local hospital where he later died from his wounds.

“Ouncie got his name because he was born small,” Professional Bull Riders CEO Sean Gleason said. “He grew up to compete with a huge heart. The PBR organization sincerely extends our own heartfelt condolences to Ouncie’s cousin Ezekiel Mitchell and the entire Mitchell family.”

Following the shooting, Bagley has been taken into custody and was charged with murder and felony discharge of a firearm, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Allen and Bagley had reportedly been in a tumultuous on-again-off-again relationship. Allen, who was ranked 23rd in the nation by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, had come to Salt Lake City to attend the Utah State Fair as a professional bull rider and was staying with Bagley during the event.

Bagley is currently being held at the Salt Lake County Metro Jail. According to the authorities, the shooting marked the 10th homicide in Salt Lake City so far this year.

“I don’t understand and I don’t know how long it’s going to take me to understand,” Ezekiel Mitchell, Allen’s cousin, said. “The guy that would give the shirt off his back to anybody, why would you take his life away?”
