Can Mexico Win World Cup 2014? 25 Percent Of Mexicans Believe El Tri Won't Pass First Round

Mexican polling firm Mitofsky has revealed a surprising lack of confidence from Mexican fans in El Tri. The polling firm revealed that 25 percent of Mexican believe that its national team will not make it past the first round. While 56 percent believe that Mexico will have a successful World Cup, 21 percent believe El Tri will follow its poor CONCAF form. Among ardent fans, the prospective is considerably higher, with 71 percent believing El Tri will have a successful 2014 campaign.

The results from fans differed, however, when asked which round El Tri would in fact reach. 23.6 percent of fans believe that El Tri will not pass the first round. 14.1 percent believe that Mexico will only reach the elimination stage, while 14.3 percent feel that El Piojo's men will go as far as a quarter final berth. Only 5.5 percent see Mexic reaching a semifinal, while a mere 1.5 percent believe that Mexico will reach the final. However, a heartening 4.5 percent see Mexico as possible champions.

When it came to a game by game situation in the A group, people considred Mexico's chances against the African team far better than those against the host country. 36.9 percent of those surveyed saw Mexico as victorious against Cameroon, 26.6 percent see a tie and only 10.8 percent see El Tri losing. For Brazil on the other hand the numbers are reversed: 31.6 percent see El Tri going down, 26.1 percent see a tie and 17.7 percent dream of a Mexican victory.
