The National College of Penal Lawyers has brought a criminal complaint against three members of the PAN or the National Action Party, accusing them of engineering Joquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán's escape in 2001. The formal suit was brought against Miguel Ángel Yúnez Linares, Jorge Tello Peón and Enrique Pérez Rodríguez at the Mexican Attorney General's office on Thursday. In a press conference, College President Jorge Reyes Peralta indicated that they had evidence including documents and testimonies implicating the three party members.

'El Chapo' Guzmán escaped from a maximum security prison facility in a laundry basket. The exact details of the escape have remained a mystery. Until now. Reyes Peralta indicated that the national College of Lawyers would be able to lay charges against the three accused with a direct responsibility to the crimes of coercion, bribery and organized crime: “as the investigations advance, the names of other people involved will surely appear.”

'El Chapo' was re-captured in Mazatlán, Mexico on Saturday February 28. No charges have yet been laid against the Sinaloa Cartel leader, however, he is wanted for drug traficking, bribery, extortion, robbery, murder and conspiracy not only in Mexico but in 7 U.S. states. No formal request for extradition has yet been made from the United States Government. He is being kept in isolation in a maximum security prison in the State of Mexico.
