In one of the most inhuman ways of punishment, a man from Bihar. India was forced to lick spits and drink the urine of several people after he admitted to having eloped with the girl he loves.

The shocking incident came to light after a video of the man kneeling down and licking spit from the floor went viral on social media.

The man from a lower caste was punished for falling in love and eloping with an upper-caste woman.

Several people spat on the floor during a village council held to confront the Dalit man.

After the man was forced to lick the spits, the Dalit man was also made to drink urine. The incident took place in the Wazirganj area of Gaya in Bihar.

The man was produced before the council after the woman's family caught hold of the couple after they had eloped.

The Gaya police filed a report after the viral video came to their attention.

Six people including the woman’s father and brother who have been identified from the video were arrested, Gaya SSP Aditya Kumar said.

The suspects were identified as Bithal Singh alias Dharmendra Kumar, Dilip Manjhi, Vijay Manjhi, Indal Manjhi, and Laljit Kumar, the ABP Live reported.

The charges imposed on them were unclear at this time.

The police, however, assured that strict action will be taken against all the suspects involved in the heinous crime.

In a similar incident of hate crime, a California woman spat on an Asian man having lunch at a local diner and told him to "go back to where you came from."

The woman who was at a store earlier that day had refused to pay for food and clothes after she noticed that the store owners were Asians. She then reportedly stormed out of the store after telling the owners that she "did not have to pay" for the products "because of their ethnicity."

The woman, identified as, 39-year-old Karen Marie Inman, of Greenbrae, Northern California, could face more than a year of imprisonment if found guilty of the misdemeanor and a charge of battery.
