National Football League (NFL) star Everson Griffen confessed Friday that he is bipolar. The defensive end for the Minnesota Vikings took to Instagram to make the announcement.

The footballer, who has been running from it a long time, said that he will embrace it and will be an "advocate for mental health." He is no longer "ashamed" of it. Griffen said that he started experiencing trouble with the death of his mom, who suddenly passed away nearly a decade ago.

The footballer said that around that time, he entered a "dark place," and thought he was great for several years. He promised that this time he will do everything the experts say, and that he loves his family and misses his friends. The 33-year-old thanked people for all the love and support, but "most of all thank you for all the prayers."

Last month, police visited his house in suburban Minneapolis after he wielded a gun in an Instagram video and shared text messages with his agent in which Griffen said that people were trying to murder him, reported New York Post.

At the time, the Minnesota Vikings thanked various police departments, including the Minnetrista Police Department, for their "quick response and dedication to ensuring the situation ended peacefully." In a statement, the Vikings said that their focus was on the player's health and his safety, and giving the "proper resources for him and his family.”

Before this, Griffen had mental health scare in 2018 when he jumped out of an ambulance that was taking him to a hospital where his mental health evaluation was to be done. He was being taken to a hospital after a few days of bizarre incidents, including the one in which he threatened to “shoot someone” if he was not given permission to enter his hotel room in Minneapolis.
