Jonathan Camuy's Facebook page name was changed to "Remembering Jonathan A. Camuy" after he was identified as one of the 49 victims who lost their lives in the massacre that occurred Sunday morning at an Orlando nightclub.

Considered the worst mass shooting in U.S. history, the crime occurred at around 2 a.m. Sunday in Pulse nightclub when a gunman, identified as 29-year-old Omar Mateen, opened fire using an AR-15 rifle. The shooter also died in the scene after negotiations with the SWAT team. “The Orlando nightclub mass shooting was inspired by Islamic State," the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee said Sunday, officials stated.

All 49 victims were confirmed Monday, one of them being Camuy, a 24-year-old Puerto Rican journalist, who worked with Telemundo prior to his passing.

The Spanish-language network, as well as National Association of Hispanic Journalists, issued a statement regarding the loss of the young man.

"The [National Association of Hispanic Journalists] familia is heartbroken and offers our condolences to Jonathan's family in Florida and Puerto Rico," noted NAHJ President Mekahlo Medina. "We also have Jonathan's work family at Telemundo in our thoughts and prayers."

  • Camuy worked on "La Voz Kids" as part of the production team.
  • He was considered a great assistant producer on the Telemundo show.
  • He also worked as producer on "Yo Soy El Artista."
  • He worked with the network in Puerto Rico before moving to Florida.
  • He studied journalism at the University of Arecibo in Puerto Rico.
  • At one point, Camuy also lived in Miami, Fla.
  • Camuy died a hero, according to his friend William Sabad Borges who was at the club.
  • According to Borges, who was able to escape the massacre with two gun wounds, Camuy and he were at the club with Borges' sister-in-law Yilmary Rodriguez Solivan.
  • Camuy's body was found protecting Solivan's, a mother of two, who also died in the shooting.
  • Words to describe Camuy include: hard-working, full of life, enthusiastic and great personality.
