Danna García is part of a star-studded cast in the original Unimás series "Ruta 35," starring Julio Bracho Castillo and Miguel Rodarte. Though the Colombian actress is stoked for the series premiere Tuesday night on Unimás, she admitted that her leading role in the show ----written by Emmy award-winner Andres Lopez and filmed in Miami, Fla. in 2014--- was challenging and a first in her nearly 30 years of trajectory.

We talked to the 37-year-old actress from Medellin, Colombia about the new series, in which she portrays Sofia Bermudez. Find out everything she revealed in our exclusive interview below.

Latin Times: Danna, thank you for your time! What can you tell me about "Ruta 35"?

Danna Garcia: It's a series about informants that work with the DEA (US Drug Enforcement Administration). In the U.S., there's a terminology called "route 35," where the government gives people the opportunity to become informants in exchange of benefits. The plot focuses on two families of capos fighting to reign the route. There's also different stories in the series and scenarios that take place in the route.

LT: In the series you portray Sofia Bermudez, who is she?

DG: Sofia is wife of a capo. She fights to protect her son (portrayed by Alexander Torres). Her motivation is her family. She's married to Rogelio Bermudez (portrayed by Miguel Rodarte) and is victim of domestic violence. At one point, she tries to escape her relationship to save her family. She's ambitious and has the determination of any woman. She does whatever it takes to keep her son away from violence.

LT: You're trajectory kicked off in the late '80s, early '90s, how is your role in "Ruta 35" different from everything you've done in the past?

DG: It's very different. I've never been part of a project with these characteristics, much less a project with so much strength and action. I've done many types of roles and have been very diverse, but physically and esthetically, I've never portrayed a role with these characteristics.

LT: What are three reasons everyone should tune in to this new series on Unimás?

DG: First of all, the series is based on real facts, things that have happened. Second of all, everything that happens in the series, is still happening today. Lastly, the series focused on a topic that not many people are aware of.

LT: What follows the series? What do you have in stock for 2016?

DG: This year will be the premiere of a movie I filmed ending December called "Mala Copa." I will travel to Mexico to start working on many projects I have pending, but in the mean time, I'm enjoying my vacations to the max.
