Despite the statistics, Bolsonaro refuses to be bogged down by the current scenario. In addition to predicting that the tough times will pass shortly, Bolsonaro opined that “Our lives have to continue; jobs should be maintained.”

Leaders of Brazil, Mexico, and Nicaragua have opted for a rather light-hearted attitude towards the deathly pandemic as they call it a "little flu”, while encouraging families to go out and eat. 

Hinting at the same, one of Brazil’s prominent dailies, Estado de São Paulo stated: “Scientists around the world are fighting to find a treatment for Covid-19. In Brazil, meanwhile, the current government’s incompetence is found to be incurable.”

Bolsonaro’s beliefs seem to have sprouted from the fear of a massive global recession, as he opined that adopting certain measures could be detrimental for the economy in the long haul.

“Obviously, there are problems in the stock market. This happens sporadically. But as we are seeing, markets have opened today and are beginning to show signs of recovery,” he added.

Whether it is criticizing LBGT people, passing comments against indigenous people, and journalists, or openly supporting the military dictatorship, he has always attracted the public ire because of his opinions.

His supporters are currently busy planning the nationwide protests and using social media to spread videos and fliers attacking members of Congress.
