A two-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was injured in what officials called a "freak accident" that happened in Gordonville, Texas on Sunday, July 11.

The toddler, Delilah Hunt, was sitting near a four-wheeler and celebrating a birthday party with her family when an AC compressor plate from the truck popped off and hit her in the head.

The family was getting ready to move the vehicle when the plate ejected and hit the toddler who was standing just a few feet away.

Delilah’s Aunt, Martina Steinbrook, spoke to reporters from News 12 saying the family is still in shock and trying to process what happened.

"AC compressor plate...it went right in," Steinbrook said pointing to her head.

"[I’m] hurt, not mad at anybody for it because it was a freak accident."

"We’re all in shock," said Steinbrook.

Delilah was airlifted to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas with life-threatening injuries.

Tim Bilderback, a first responder at the scene, described the incident as a "random freak accident".

"It was a very sad ordeal, obviously. If she was anywhere besides the spot she was sitting in, the injury would not have been as bad. Nobody expects that to happen," said Bilderback.

The toddler continues to be in a critical condition. The family said that doctors told them that the baby girl’s brain pressure from the injuries is in the danger zone.

"She was the smartest little two-year-old there was and [the] spunkiest; she just loved the world," said Tina Heineken, Delilah’s grandmother. "She’s gotta come back to us."

The family has started a GoFundMe account to pay for Delilah’s medical expenses.

“Right now, we’re asking for any help we can get to help for Delilah,” said Steinbrook.

The family is also asking people to pray for the good health of the baby girl.

In a similar but unrelated freak accident, a 7-year-old boy died after a pillar of a gate fell on him on Thursday, July 8, while the child was at a local clinic to receive the Covid-19 vaccination.

The incident happened on Thursday morning at the Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) center in the Mahoba district of Kanpur, India.

The agitated family members of the deceased child and few other villagers staged a protest outside the medical center, demanding justice.

SDM Kulpahar Suthan Abdullah and CO Tej Bahadur Singh responded to the scene and pacified the family members of the boy.
