The Boltons
In the Season 4 finale of "Game of Thrones" fans watched as Ramsay Bolton and his enormous army of northmen marched on towards Winterfell with Theon Greyjoy in tow. Find out what is set to occur during the "Siege of Winterfell" in George RR. Martin forthcoming novel, "The Winds of Winter." HBO

Despite the elusive release date of “The Winds of Winter” fans still have something to get excited about -- plot spoilers. While George R.R. Martin may not be ready to release the sixth book in his “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, he is most certainly willing to tease readers and “Game of Thrones” fans with the promise of battles, blood, and some seriously anticipated brawls.

Readers have been waiting three devastating long years for “The Winds of Winter” to be released, and despite the HBO TV series “Game of Thrones” set to surpass the show in its forthcoming fifth season, no release date seems to be on the horizon. So while fans slowly wait with growing resentment, there is some good news to be heard. George R.R. Martin has revealed that “The Winds of Winter” will feature two highly anticipated wars. Like most plot lines in “A Song of Ice and Fire” these wars have been growing over times, so while GRRM didn’t explicitly spell out what is set to occur, fans can assume that the two battles featured in book six will be the “Siege of Winterfell” and the “Second Siege of Meereen.”

Although these two clashes will take place on opposite ends of Westeros, they will open the next book. The “Siege of Winterfell” was one of the major unresolved conflicts for Stannis Baratheon at the end of GRRM’s “A Dance with Dragons.” Stannis retook Deepwood Motte from Ramsay’s Bolton’s forces and is en route to retake Winterfell and free “Arya Stark” from House Bolton, who is arranged to be married to Ramsay Bolton.

“A Dance of Dragons” concluded with Mance Rayder’s rescue attempt of “Arya” being somewhat success, despite being captured himself, “Arya” along with Theon Greyjoy do flee Winterfell and make it safely to Stannis’ camp. “The Winds of Winter” will open with Stannis sending “Arya” and Theon Greyjoy to the safety of the Wall and Lord Commander Jon Snow, with an escort of six men, the Bravoosi banker Tycho Nestoris and Ser Justin Massey. As for the “Second Siege of Meereen” less details are known. However, fans should expect the raging battle to open “The Winds of Winter” and get directly into the heart of the battle.

In an interview Entertainment Weekly, George R.R. Martin did have some fantastic spoiler filled details on what exactly is going on over in Essos. The author revealed that the Dothraki who were at one point the main plot of the Daenerys Targaryen plot line, will once again be a “big” part of the story. In addition, GRRM admitted that two of the stories main protagonists, Daenerys and Tyrion Lannister will finally “intersect, in a way.” However, GRRM did warn fans that while the “Second Siege of Meereen” will start “The Winds of Winter” the two characters won’t be united right away, stating, "for much of the book they’re still apart."
