A mother allegedly killed her 9-month-old daughter before hanging herself over a domestic dispute at an Indian village in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district, police said on Wednesday., May 25

The shocking murder-suicide took place at the Navagam village in the district on Tuesday evening, an official from Thangadh police station told the Print.

The 22-year-old woman, Bhavuben Dabhi hanged her daughter using a rope before ending her life in the same room, the official said.

The woman, who lived in a joint family, had frequent quarrels with her family members and had expressed her wish to live separately.

She took the extreme step due to a domestic dispute, the official said. The bodies were transported to a medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. The results were being awaited.

This is an ongoing investigation and no further details were revealed at the time of this writing.

In a similar incident, an Oregon woman, locked in a custody battle with her ex-spouse, was found dead with her two children on May 17, in what is being seen as an apparent murder-suicide by police officers investigating the crime.

Ashley Palmer, a 31-year-old mother, was found dead in her apartment in Gresham, where officers also discovered the bodies of her two children, 8-year-old Xavier Rayvaughn Danger Palmer and 6-year-old Kayleana Beatrice Palmer.

Palmer had been locked for years in a custody battle with her ex-spouse Jenavie Palmer, who had originally reported Ashley to the police the day that they were found dead after she had received a message with a link to a playlist with the title "mother children murder suicide 2022".
