A young man reportedly murdered his mother with a spade for not letting him talk to women.

The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Suraj, lived with his mother and sister in Pratapgarh, a town in Uttar Pradesh, India. His father, Lalbahadur, is an army personnel posted in Jammu.

According to the police, the suspect believed that his mother, 44-year-old Rajkumari, was not taking any initiative to get him married. She had also reproved him for talking to a girl on the phone. The young man often got into arguments with his mother over the same issue.

On Monday, Rajakumari and Suraj had gone to the nearby field to cut grass for their cattle. While the mother was doing her work, her son was busy talking to a girl on the phone.

The agitated mother snatched away the phone from the suspect. This enraged the suspect who picked up a spade and attacked his mother on her head.

Witnesses told police that they heard the suspect say that his mother neither showed any interest in getting him married nor did she let him talk to any girl.

The Kandhai police arrested the suspect on Monday evening. A case of murder has been charged against the suspect, station house officer (SHO) Neeraj Waliya said.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a drunk mother murdered her widow daughter because she was upset over her phone usage. The incident happened on Sunday, July 11, in the Kanuvaipalayam area of Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu, India.

The accused mother, identified as Nagamani, reportedly murdered her daughter, identified as 31-year-old Mahalakshmi, by smashing her head with a grinding stone.

The victim's husband, Saravanakumar, died in an accident eight months ago. The woman and her two children had been living at her husband's house along with her mother-in-law.

"His [Saravanakumar] mother Thulasimani used to advise the widow to take care of her children instead of spending hours chatting on phone. As she kept ignoring her advice, Thulasimani asked Mahalakshmi to stay with her mother, N Nagamani of Kanuvaipalayam near Karamadai," the Times of India quoted a police officer as saying.

The victim shifted to her mother’s house six months ago. The suspect too had issues with the victim's phone usage. She believed that her daughter was having affair with multiple men.

On Sunday night, the suspect, who was in an inebriated state, got into an argument with the victim, following which the mother bludgeoned her daughter with the grinding stone.

The suspect was arrested on Monday and has been charged with murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
