Just months after tragically losing their child to COVID-19, a couple has won two lottery rewards in two weeks.

Susan Slater and her husband won over £30,000 (approximately $41,160) twice in July on the People's Postcode Lottery.

According to Essex Live, the couple now wishes to spend the money memorializing their son Steve, who died of coronavirus earlier this year.

The couple from Canvey Island, Essex in England, and four neighbors won £1,000 (approximately $1,300) in the People's Postcode Lottery on July 15.

SS8 0EA won again a fortnight later, this time garnering the neighbors £30,000 per ticket.

Slater, 74, said she couldn't believe it when she learned she'd won once more.

She said: "When I got the phone call for this, I'd told quite a few people that I'd won £1,000 and I thought 'this is a wind-up, someone is winding me up!"

"Nowhere in my imagination did I think I was going to be lucky enough to win £30,000," she added.

Due to financial constraints, Slater's family was unable to give her loving father-of-two the proper send-off.

Susan said in an online tabloid that she hopes to donate some of her cash to a memorial after learning of her win.

"We're going to have a big memorial for him. We want to celebrate him properly," she said.

"I just want everyone to come and raise a glass for Steve," she added.

Slater went on to say how happy she was for her winning neighbors and how happy she was that her neighborhood was winning together.

She stated that many people are assisting her in this endeavor. It's old Canvey, according to Susan, and they're a very close-knit group.

After the double win, one lucky neighbor received £62,000 after playing two tickets.

Slater said she planned to treat her family after receiving the money, including her daughter, daughter-in-law, five granddaughters, and two great-grandchildren.

They should be getting a little bit, she thought.

"My husband and I have been married for 55 years this year and we always love a holiday, so this one is going to be an extra special holiday," Slater said.

She stated that they both enjoy traveling and that it will be a long cruise for them.

Matt Johnson, the People's Postcode Lottery ambassador, congratulated the winners in a Wales Online report.

"It was such a pleasure to bring this surprise to Susan, it's been a very tough year for her and the family and I'm especially happy that we could bring her and the neighbours who have rallied round them a bit of good news after a difficult time," he said.
